The Cloth

The orange Driggs is cut from a 14 oz waxed and oiled cotton canvas made by Pacific Blue Mills in Japan. It is a tin cloth: a tightly woven cotton canvas saturated with a wax-and-oil finish. Tin cloth has long been the working fabric of loggers, hunters and field crews because of what that finish does to canvas: it sheds rain and wind and resists abrasion and snags.

What sets this cloth apart is the hand. On paper 14 oz reads as heavy, but in the hand it is softer and lighter than any fabric we have used before. It has none of the board-stiff break-in that tin cloth is known for, and it moves with you from the first wear, while keeping the density and durability that come with the weight. Over time it takes on creases and color changes at the elbows, shoulders and pocket edges that follow how you ride. The finish is in the fibers rather than a synthetic coating, so the canvas stays breathable and can be re-dressed with wax whenever the surface starts to dry out.

The Jacket

The fit is slim, cut to wear over a t-shirt with enough room to layer into fall and winter. Back gussets give full range of motion in the saddle. All armor pockets are external and accessible, so you can pull the jacket on and off without digging for hardware.

Care

Do not machine wash or dry clean. Brush off dirt once dry and sponge with cold water if needed. Re-wax as the finish wears to maintain water repellency. Creasing, darkening and fading at wear points are normal and part of how tin cloth ages.
