The Frank Jean in 15oz Kurabo Selvedge

When we opened Jane, Brooklyn Denim was one of the most important stores in Williamsburg. Frank, the owner, was behind the counter. He is one of the people who made this neighborhood what it is.

I grew up in New York hanging out in clothing stores and sneaker shops. The people who ran them are the reason I wanted to start my own brand. Over the years rents went up, shopping moved online, and a lot of those owner-operators got pushed out. Today most stores are run on investor money by employees. When Frank closed his final store I wanted to keep some of him going. I asked and he was kind enough to let us use one of his patterns. We named it the Frank Jean.

The other reason is simple: I love this jean. I made a sample and didn't take it off. That's how I decide what we make. If I still want to wear it the next day, and still want to wear it two weeks later, it goes into production. Out of all the jeans I own, these are my favorite. The cut and the weight are right, they work with any pair of shoes, and they're comfortable from summer into fall.

Fit and care

• Size true to your waist
• Raw denim shrinks. Expect to lose about 2" of inseam on the first wash, with very little change in the waist
• Sizes 26–31: 32" inseam. Sizes 32–38: 36" inseam (raw)
• One Wash (+$10): we give them one cold wash and dry before they ship, so the shrink is already done
• Tailored hem (+$10): we hem them to your length
